Analysis of the difference between vertical CNC machining center and horizontal

 The basic functions of the vertical machining center and the horizontal machining center are the same, and both are mainly milling.

Vertical machining center refers to a machining center with a vertical spindle, and a horizontal machining center refers to a machining center with a horizontal spindle. 

Vertical machining centers and horizontal machining centers have a lot in common. With the continuous expansion of functions, the boundaries between vertical machining centers and horizontal machining centers are becoming more and more blurred. However, today we have summarized the difference between vertical machining centers and horizontal machining centers. Let's see our analysis:

  The spindle structure is different. The spindle is perpendicular to the ground, and the axis of the spindle is consistent with the direction of gravity. The axial feed of the spindle through the sliding table on the column is almost unaffected by gravity, but after all, the center line of the spindle is at a certain distance from the column. Excessive overhang will cause Insufficient spindle rigidity results in machining vibration. Therefore, the distance between the spindle center line of the vertical machining center and the column is generally no more than 1200mm; in the horizontal machining center, the spindle is parallel to the ground, and the axis of the spindle is 90 degrees to the direction of gravity. Gravity directly affects the feed of the spindle in the axial direction. Therefore, the Z-direction feed of the horizontal machining center is usually realized by the table or the column, that is, the spindle itself only moves up and down, and does not feed along the axial direction.

  The column structure is different. The column of a vertical machining center usually does not move, and in order to pursue rigidity, it is usually made as thick as possible. There is also a mobile column vertical machining center. The worktable of the moving column vertical machining center only moves in the X or Y direction, and the column will move in the Y or X direction accordingly. This design method requires very high power of the column drive motor. The column of the horizontal machining center must be a movable column. The column of the positive T-shaped horizontal machining center moves in the X direction, and the column of the reverse T-shaped horizontal machining center moves in the Z direction.
